Zubrohlava
The Partner of the micro-project on the Slovak side
Zubrohlava is a village located in the northern part of Slovakia, between settlements Klin, Bobrov and Rabča. Together with 23 other villages, Zubrohlava is part of the Námestovo District, Žilina Region.
The administrative area extends over 1,514.40 ha. Although the entire village lies between 605 and 874 m above sea level, its centre is 620 m above sea level. The southern part of the administrative area is situated in the Orava Basin, while the northern part lies in the Podbeskidzka Basin. The municipality is located alongside the Polhoranka watercourse, approximately 2 km from its estuary to the Orava reservoir. Its population currently stands at 2452, while its southern parts have the highest population density.
The first written record on the village dates back to 1550 and comes from the oldest map of what is called Upper Hungary in the report on the salt springs exploration under Babia Góra. The largest and most valuable cultural monument of Zubrohlava is the Roman Catholic Baroque Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul, built between 1754 and 1761.
